My beautiful wife and I went to a good friend's mock thanksgiving this past weekend in Baltimore. I wanted to keep it dressy without being too overly dressed up. I chose to go with a suit sans the tie. Wore a gingham baby blue and white dress shirt and a matching pocket square. Wearing a suit without a tie is a great way to balance looking great, not being overly dressed but not being under-dressed either.
