WDIWT...5/22/13

It is suppose to be a 86 degree day today in the city but it is still very gray outside, however it is incredibly humid...that you can even feel it inside. With this in mind I kept it with light color and fabrics again. The jacket, the shirt and shoes are things I've already had but the trousers I picked up a while back but the weather was too cold to wear them. They are an off-white with a faint pinstripe from H&M that I picked up for $5 or $10. Ended up picking out my least wrinkled shirt this morning and my one unstructured blazer, it's not the greatest combination in the world but I do like it. (This is what happens when you were going to wear jeans and then check that it's going to be 86 and decide to go with light clothing and mother nature still goes the cloudy route) The lighting sucks since I decided to take them inside today.

Blazer: Gap Olive Green Unstructured Cotton Blazer via Gap Factory-$35
Shirt: American Living White/Pink Micro-Check L/S Shirt via JCP-$5
Trousers: H&M Off-White pinstripe via H&M-$5 or $10

WDIWT...5/3/13

The weather again was somewhat interesting, with it being cold in the morning at around 52 degrees and windy with the temperature then climbing to about 70 with a little bit of wind and a lot of sun. To avoid a coat as it wasn't cold enough for a coat but still decent enough to layer I decided to do exactly that layer. The great thing about layering a sweater under a blazer is that you can just take the blazer and leave the sweater on or take the sweater off and keep the blazer. With it being Career Day and having to do some running around, I stuck with the blazer most of the day and took off the sweater.

Blazer: Stafford Prep Navy Cotton Blazer via JCP-$27.50
Sweater: Old Navy Light Brown Marbled Sweater via Old Navy-Gift

Jeans: Gap "Slim Fit" Dark Denim via Gap-$45
Socks: Gray/Light Gray/Orange Argyle Socks via Gap-$3
Shoes: Vintage Florsheim Imperial Loafers via eBay-$25
Total: $105.50

WDIWT...2/27/13

The weather dipped into the mid-30s today and being Wednesday I wanted to keep it somewhat casual while still being dressed up for work. I also didn't want to wear a coat so I decided to layer it up. Layer properly and it 's a great way to stay warm without having to carry a coat. The blazer I'm wearing is by far one of my favorites and one of the best deals I've gotten via eBay. I had to make a quick run to the post office by work so I just threw on a hat and my brown leather gloves, the sweater and blazer kept more very warm. The blazer is a tweed herringbone.

Jacket: Tweed Herringbone in Maroon via eBay-$15
Sweater: Stone V-Neck via Old Navy-$10
Shirt: White/Brown striped American Living via JC Penney-$10

WDIW...Saturday and a Layering Challenge.

I apologize for the lack of posts this past few days. I'm currently visiting family so I've been trying to stay away from the computer as much as I possibly can. I will try to update the blog, hopefully will leave some scheduled. What you'll probably see throughout this week won't be WDIWT posts but more like WDIW a couple of days ago as I'm not snapping away as much as I usually would. Nonetheless here is what I wore a couple of days ago.

The picture isn't the greatest as it's from my iPhone and taken from the reflection of a mirror like finish on aluminum in La Guardia, before I boarded my flight. The current challenge for the NikeTalk Dressing Better Thread is layering and I just happen to layer, in order to avoid taking a coat with me on the flight.

Jacket: Indochino Brown Tweed part of a suit via Indochino
Sweater: Banana Republic Camel V-Neck via Banana Republic Factory Store-$15
Shirt: American Living White/Pink Micro-check via JCP-$5
Jeans: Old Navy Slim Fit-$2.50
Shoes: Florsheim Imperial via eBay-$25

WDIWT...2/6/2013

Today I decided to go more the casual route to work while still keeping it dressed up. I originally was going to wear my brown corduroy pants with what I have on but the contrasting brown with the jacket and pants looked terrible. I simply switched to jeans as I think the combination of dark denim with a brown jacket looks great. I will say I'm not 100% sold on the look of the shawl sweater under the jacket.

In addition in our NikeTalk Dressing Better Thread, the challenge is wearing items in multiple ways, well this is way #2 of how to wear a 3-piece suit. This is the same jacket from Monday's entry here.

Details:
Jacket: Part of a Suit from Indochino as seen here

Jeans: Gap Slim Fit via Gap-$42

WDIT...2/5/13

Quick post for today:

As the weather took a downturn today, the temperature became steady at 25 degrees but it started to flurry throughout the tri-state area, I wanted to keep it simple and trying to mix hue's of navy with pink. The outfit below excluding the watch and shoes because they were gifts was under $30. The pictures are from my iPhone so I apologize for the quality.

The stance could have been better but I'm happy with it.

Details:
Sweater: Old Navy V-Neck in Navy via Old Navy ($15)
Shirt: American Living via JCP ($5)
Trousers: Arizona Navy Twill Pants via JCP ($5)
Shoes: Florsheim Imperial Wingtips (Gift)
Watch (not pictured): Coach Men's Watch (Gift)

Total: $25

Offered with very few commentary, I wore this sometime last week and I really don't remember when. Pretty simple idea, layering without a coat by wearing a v-neck sweater under a blazer.

Sweater: Banana Republic V-Neck via Banana Republic Factory Store $15
Shirt: American Living via JCPenney $5

WDIW...Yesterday

Yesterday was a pretty gray day in the city, along with some showers through morning to afternoon. Temperatures were in the low 60s, so with that in mind, I made sure that I was still warm as I don't know if the heat would be but not overly warm either in case the heat was on in the school. In addition I also wanted to wear my Michael Andrews Bespoke trousers that I picked up at the sample sale back in August for $20. Aside from one minor  and cheap alteration; hemming of the pants, they fit extremely well. Otherwise I kept it pretty simple.
Shirt: American Living Tie: Indochino Tie Bar: Banara Republic

The shirt is one of my new favorites and one that has been worn at least once a week due to its versatility; a white with mini purple check pattern with a semi-spread collar. The tie is a charcoal glen plaid pattern in wool. A wool tie with this current fall weather, not winter yet but cool enough, adds a nice bit of "heft" to the look. I also recently started to look for slimmer ties, about 2.5"vs. 3" and it makes a difference. I'm not a small guy so 2.5" is as small as I'll go while still keeping a proportionate look. FYI, the tie is from Indochino.

Shoes: Florsheim Imperial Trousers:Michael Andrews Bespoke

The trousers from the sample sale at MAB are an amazingly nice wool. I want to say they're flannel as it is extremely soft and has a weight to it that my other wool trousers from MAB do not have as they are a 4 season weight. The chalk stripe is a nice touch that helps elongate the legs. I think I'll be ordering the matching vest for these pants soon. This look would have been even better if I had the matching vest.

Details: Shirt-American Living via JCPenney ($9), Tie-Indochino via Indochino ($50), Tie Bar-Banana Republic via BR Factory Store ($2.50), Trousers-Michael Andrews Bespoke ($20 sample sale) and hemming ($5), Shoes-Florsheim Imperial Wingtips ($ Gift)

Layering...Vol. 2

Couple days ago I posted a picture of layering a sweater and a blazer. I got so much positive feedback regarding the v-neck sweater and blazer look that I decided to try it again on Friday. This time I took a lighter off-white, beige really v-neck and wore my maroon herringbone tweed blazer over it. Friday was particularly chilly and rainy so the maroon herringbone tweed blazer was a nice way to keep dry and warm at the same time. Sorry for the crappy pics.

Blazer: Maroon Herringbone Tweed no brand via eBay ($15)
Pocket Square: Pierre Cardin via Marshalls ($.75)
V-neck: Off-White/Beige via Old Navy (Gift)
Shirt: American Living via JCP ($10)
Jeans: Gap Slim Fit via Gap ($42)
Shoes: Florsheim Imperial (Gift)

The trick with a blazer in such an "off" color is to wear neutral colors underneath and pants that aren't loud either. Always anchor the look with a nice pair of brown dress shoes.

WDYWT-Meet the Teacher Night (Mixing High & Low)

Today was Meet the Teacher Night so I decided to wear my Michael Andrews Bespoke suit for the occasion. Frankly I'm getting tired of my male co-workers saying something snarky whenever I dress with a shirt and tie or a suit, it's not my fault that you're self-conscious about how you look...just saying.

Nonetheless just because you're wearing an expensive suit, it doesn't mean that everything else must be super expensive too. This is the ultimate mix on high end (Bespoke Suit) and low end (shirt, pocket square, tie bar and tie, and some would argue the shoes and watch too). Just because the suit was a couple grand doesn't mean that everything else needs to be as well.

The shirt, tie, tie bar and pocket square were no more than $16 together (bought separately) and the shoes and watch were no more than $120 together.

The Outfit for Today:

The Breakdown
Suit: Bespoke Suit via Michael Andrews Bespoke ($2000+)
Shirt: American Living Purple Check JC Penney's ($9.72)
Tie: eBay No Name Brand via eBay ($1)
Tie Bar: eBay No Name Brand ($3 or $4)
Watch (not pictured): Kenneth Cole Brown Leather Band via Nordstrom Rack ($40)
Pocket Square: Pierre Cardin via Marshalls ($.50, pack of 4 for $2)
Shoes: Florsheim Lexington via Florsheim.com (Gift but were on sale for $80 at the time)

WDYWT 9/10

So I apologize for lack of posts but here is what I wore yesterday. My wife and I are trying to have our clothing out for the week, since we get up ridiculously early and this would just be one less major thing to do in the morning. I apologize for the crappy pics as they were taken with my iPhone.

Items worn:
Sweater: Old Navy Argyle Sweater-$10
Shirt: American Living (JCPenney)-$9
Tie: No brand red/black stripe tie (eBay)-$1
Pants: Michael Andrews Bespoke (sample sale)-$20
