WDYWT-Meet the Teacher Night (Mixing High & Low)

Today was Meet the Teacher Night so I decided to wear my Michael Andrews Bespoke suit for the occasion. Frankly I'm getting tired of my male co-workers saying something snarky whenever I dress with a shirt and tie or a suit, it's not my fault that you're self-conscious about how you look...just saying.

Nonetheless just because you're wearing an expensive suit, it doesn't mean that everything else must be super expensive too. This is the ultimate mix on high end (Bespoke Suit) and low end (shirt, pocket square, tie bar and tie, and some would argue the shoes and watch too). Just because the suit was a couple grand doesn't mean that everything else needs to be as well.

The shirt, tie, tie bar and pocket square were no more than $16 together (bought separately) and the shoes and watch were no more than $120 together.

The Outfit for Today:

The Breakdown
Suit: Bespoke Suit via Michael Andrews Bespoke ($2000+)
Shirt: American Living Purple Check JC Penney's ($9.72)
Tie: eBay No Name Brand via eBay ($1)
Tie Bar: eBay No Name Brand ($3 or $4)
Watch (not pictured): Kenneth Cole Brown Leather Band via Nordstrom Rack ($40)
Pocket Square: Pierre Cardin via Marshalls ($.50, pack of 4 for $2)
Shoes: Florsheim Lexington via Florsheim.com (Gift but were on sale for $80 at the time)

Today Was My Birthday...WDYWT

Today was my birthday, I don't really care too much for it, it's just another day to me but I still wanted to dress up a little bit for the occasion. I had a few articles of clothing that I hadn't worn at all or in a good while. The shirt is a shirt I bought from a friend that was going to post it on eBay, shirt was brand new without tags, I think it's been about a year since I've worn it, now it fits! The jacket is the one previously featured here. Hadn't worn it until today, fits pretty well off the rack and it has working cuffs. Beware that if you get working cuffs that they actually are the right length for you, shortening sleeves with working buttons is extremely difficult and expensive since the shortening has to occur from the shoulder and not the cuffs.

Blazer: Gap $35 via Gap Factory Store
Shirt: Banana Republic $10 via Friend
Pocket Square: Folded Napkin
Jeans: American Rag $7 via Macy's
Shoes: LandsEnd Loafers $21 via LandsEnd.com

And this is what I wore...

Blazer: Gap, Shirt: Banana Republic

Working Cuffs

Jeans: American Rag Shoes: LandsEnd Loafers

What I Wore Today...

This is what I wore today, something simple yet comfortable. The bottom is not featured since I wore the same bottoms that I wore in the post about getting my pants hemmed. Wore my American Rag jeans that I just got back with my Gucci Loafers and H&M socks. The short sleeve shirt is from Old Navy which I bought about 2 years ago or so.

FYI: Doubt they'll be a post tomorrow night since I'll be going to the Dodger game!

Hemming It Up

As you recall I had some pants hemmed this past week and here they are. I had my slimmer fit jeans cut  a little longer than most of my slacks but still wanted something that had no break. Here they are:

Jeans: American Rag $7, Hem: Free, Loafers: Gucci $Gift

Notice that they end right at the top of the loafers which is exactly where I wanted them to end. I like this length because as you can see it shows just enough sock or skin when sock less but if I were wearing a higher cut shoe, they would end with no break as well.

What Did I Wear...yesterday

So remember the loafers posted in yesterday's post? Well here's how I wore them yesterday. Usually I would have gone with brown shoes but opted for black for 3 reasons: 1) to break in the shoes 2) to experiment with khaki and black and 3) I wore a black sweater.
Sweater: Banana Republic Size XL-$15 Shirt: Linen Old Navy Size XL-$8 Pants: Chinos H&M Size 36-$7.50 Socks: H&M-$3 for a pack of 3 ($1 per pair of socks) Shoes: Thom McAn Loafers Size 10.5-$20 Total: $51.50

What Did I Wear Today...1/22/12

Today I wanted to experiment with gray and different shades of them. Included in all my WDYWT posts will be what I paid and where I got it from, as well as size for reference. The combination I think came out pretty good. Definitely need to get the pants hemmed (probably a $5-8 fix). This probably cost me no more than $75-90; including the shoes and watch.
