WDIWT...4/23/14-Fall into Spring

Fall can't seem to leave New York even when it's the end of April. Corduroy trousers and a donegal tweed blazer did the job on this brisk day in the city and on the first day back to work from Spring Break. In regards to color I kept it simple, navy, light gray and a light brown. I could have worn light brown trousers and a navy blazer and the combination would look just as good.

Menswear for Women's Wear

Menswear pieces have always been incorporated into women's wear, whether they'd be dress shirts or blazers. Cap toes, wingtips and whole cuts, shoes common to a menswear enthusiasts wardrobe are now being made by many shoe companies for women as well. Recently Meermin Mallorca has started to make men's offering for women with variations in the lasts being used including having a lower vamp than those on men's shoes.

The shoes below are not available on their online store but are available in their Madrid store. My wife really liked them but they didn't have her size in stock and Pepe was nice enough to get them made in her size. They were just delivered last week, couldn't be happier.

WDIWT…1/14/14 (Layered Tweed)

Today was one of the first mild winter days that we've had in a while so I chose to forego the winter coat and layer a sweater underneath my tweed suit. It more than sufficed and kept me warm throughout the day, including while it was raining on my way to the subway.

The brown on the suit is a very rich with donegal hues of yellow and orange.

The shade of the suit is a very rich brown with donegal hues of yellow and orange. Last week I decided to wear this same suit with a light brown sweater. Today I decided to wear it with a rich light blue. Wearing it with a lighter colored sweater helps often up the brown of the suit.

My New Favorite Wallet

I wrote a couple of days ago about this fold wallet that was given to me as a gift by Pepe at Meermin Mallorca trunk show. I must admit that at first I wasn't 100% sure of how this wallet worked but once he showed me I thought it was a pretty genius way to keep really the essentials needed in your wallet. I've gone from having a bi-fold wallet to a card wallet and eventually to the J. Crew Magic wallet and all in an effort to be as minimal as possible in regards to what I carry.

I thought I had found a good balance with J. Crew Magic wallet and now although it's great I ended up adding plenty of stuff and it defeated the slimness of it. Now this isn't the wallets fault, clearly but mine.

One thing I really do love about this wallet is that it forces you to be as minimalistic as possible and makes you think about what do I really need to carry in my wallet. The wallet easily fits 4 cards (the most I've put in), and a decent amount of cash. The cards go in the middle by the tab and with the cash you just center it under the tab and fold your wallet closed. The leather used is amazingly soft and incredibly supple. Being shell cordovan it is also incredibly sturdy. Pictures of shell cordovan to me tend to indicate that the leather is almost stiff to the touch, but at least with this one it is very soft. I'm looking forward to the patina that it will develop throughout time.

Pictures below show how it looks when being used, pictures below that when I first got it:

Meermin Mallorca Trunk Show on 11/15/13

I had to go to SuitSupply to return a suit that didn't fit and to get the chest let out on the other. The Meermin Mallorca trunk show was literally around the corner from SuitSupply so both were conveniently close. Having owned 3 pairs of Meermin Mallorca shoes; which my brown calf double monks get plenty of wear, and having been in communication with both Sandro and Pepe, I wanted to visit them.

First, let me say that Pepe and his mother; Luisa, were incredibly welcoming and cordial and they made visiting the trunk show worth it. Pepe let me tried on a pair of the Brown Museum Calf cap toes from the StyleForum MTO group buy that someone decided they didn't want, I have to say it was hard leaving them behind. They weren't on display and I'm pretty sure I was one of the only one's if not the only one he let try on. Although I didn't leave with anything that day, I will be putting in an order (once he returns to Mallorca) for a pair of Austerity Brogues in Brown Museum Calf. Pepe was kind enough to gift me this amazing Shell Cordovan fold wallet that I just started using today. Pics of how the wallet works tomorrow hopefully.

Below are some pictures from the trunk show:
