Nice cool down today and somewhat breezy as well. The sun was nice and bright not letting us forget that summer is still here. It is important to have light knit layers for those chilly Spring and Summer days. Layering is great and adds another dimension to your outfit.

Went with a combination of three colors, blue, brown and gray.

Yesterday was another crazy weather day which eventually led to heavy rain by 7pm and with the high for the day being 63 and the low 54, I made sure that staying warm and dry was a priority.

Finally back as the year has finally settled down with today being the final day of instruction at work. With my seniors who I had as freshmen finally done and going down that road to graduation to college I decided to dress up a bit and wear a suit for their last day at school. Went with rubber soled shoes as it was to rain again today and it did. Wore leather bottomed ones on Friday and they got soaked and so did my feet.

Another one of those it's Spring but it still feels like Fall kind of days. The wind is nowhere near as bad as yesterday but still cool enough to warrant a sweater. Granted, after a while you can start feeling warm, which is why layering is great and having the appropriate layers is important. With the sun the way it is, the short sleeve shirt is handy.

WDIWT...2/7/13

Today was a bit of a longer day than usual, with the impeding winter storm gas lines were starting to get crazy. As a result unfortunately you're getting a pic of me at the end of the day, looking tired but happy to be home. This is honestly one of my go to outfits during the fall/winter. Primarily for a couple of reasons, one it's simple and two due to the thick and incredibly warm tweed trousers. Pairing with a white shirt, black or gray cardigan and a gray, black or my usual black with skull and crossbones tie.

I got frustrated this morning with trying to tie the skinnier skull and crossbones tie so I went with a blackish gray one of a regular width. But just in case, I included a picture with the usual tie. Wearing a tie with skull and crossbones (it's J. Crew bro! shout to ksteezy!) is a great way to bring personality to your outfit while still keeping it professional. Oh...and definitely have to have the matching socks!

Cardigans...Alternative to a Blazer

It's cold in New York and some times you just want to be able to layer but layer in a way where you do not need to be taking so many things off or be stuck wearing one heavy layer over your shirt and tie. The cardigan is a happy medium and a great layer to wear underneath a blazer or a coat. Here are two that I received as a Christmas gift, had to exchange one for a smaller size.

Yesterday's Fit

Sorry for the delay in posts, just a busy week. Here's a quick post of what I wore yesterday, Tried a color palette of blues with a hint of gray. Navy trousers, navy tie and a light blue gingham shirt to be exact with a gray cardigan to break up all the blue.

Notice the spread of the collar, not a complete cutaway, but spread enough to have that nice spread look.

Here is a better look without the awkward angle. Again very simple, baby blue gingham shirt, navy tie. With a pattern like gingham the best thing to do is to wear a solid color tie in the same color family as the shirt, in the blues in this case.

NT Camo Challenge

NikeTalk's Dressing Better Thread has a camo challenge this month and considering my career, wearing camp in a large dose isn't necessarily the most professional look to incorporate. As a result I added it in a small dose, as a pocket square.

Part 2, One Suit: Three Looks-Today for Work...

The Suit:
As mentioned yesterday, I want to try and demonstrate the versatility of a simple navy suit. Today, with a parent/teacher association meeting later this evening I chose to go with wearing the navy suit as well a suit. Navy again is staple color that can be pretty much worn with every possible color combination that you can think of in regards to shirts and ties. Still, the following saying comes to mind "Keep it simple, stupid." Usually this means a white shirt with a conservative tie color, still you can keep it simple and ditch the plain white shirt as I do here. Instead I went with a white shirt with a navy mini-check, as it plays on the navy of the suit and on the navy of the tie.

I know it's not easy to tell (iPhone pictures) but the shirt does have a mini-check in navy blue. You will also notice that although I'm using navy blue to refer to the blue hue I'm wearing, there are really 3 different types of  "navy" blues going on. At the end of the day as long as they either provide some contrast or are near the same shade you're fine. In addition, the white pocket square and silver tie bar are great accessorizes to take the look a "step above the rest."

Why wearing a navy suit with black shoes has ever been a question is besides me. Yes you can wear black shoes with a navy suit. I personally prefer brown but after seeing Wisith's entry yesterday, I was inspired to go with the black.

Always add some fun flair when you can, like with the socks, yes those are sharks. Still kept in the "blue" family though.
